I bought a cover for my webcam, a Logitech C920 I think. Barely cost anything, but I was always wondering if I actually needed it. I did some digging around and managed to turn on the webcam and then turn off the LED, while the webcam was still active. All in software, 15 minutes of fiddling around

Logitech C920 is a very old, cheap webcam. I suggest Insta360 Link 2 camera or OBS-Bot newer models. With a good enough camera, you won't need very large lights as webcams with larger sensors can work magic in lower light (not dark room), which also helps with your friend's eyes when she is not cons
