Levoit core 600S here. Probably overkill based on my 1,100sf area but here in AZ it's mighty dusty and a dog to boot so I wanted it to more than take care of things. I leave it on 24/7 on high. Works great.

Levoit core 300s for small room, Vital 200S for big one. Got both for ~300€ at Amazon de deal. I took Vital because of placement issues, otherwise Id go with core 600s. Phillips seems a bit more expensive locally.

You're right, for allergies you should aim for 5-6 air changes per hour. Not sure about accurately in terms of exact numbers but my Levoit core 600s tracks increases pretty well when I start cooking or during wildfire season. Not sure about the lower end models though.
