I will always be thankful to lenovo for its warranty service. When I was a broke student I had the spinning disk fail in my ThinkPad X220 and even though i had acquired the laptop from ebay, had no proof of warranty and only had three days of spare warranty, they accepted my request, replaced the di

Nice on the purchase! The biggest increase the battery life will come from a new battery. I'm willing to bet the battery you currently have with it is quite old and doesn't even have 70% health left. The operating system won't matter too much for battery life. Unless you are leaving it idle for long

It's possible. A refurbished Lenovo might be your best bet. (I'm still daily driving a Thinkpad x220 that I bought refurbished for around that price, but 10 years ago. Today's prices may be a bit higher (inflation).) But forget about dual-booting, a $200, 8G RAM Laptop will not run well under Win10,

Lenovo is probably gnashing their teeth having made the ThinkPad X220/X230 which is still usable and works very well to this day, instead of breaking in 3 years to encourage people to buy a new laptop much sooner than they would need it

I got off on an Apple rant there, and forgot to say that as someone who came primarily from the Apple laptop ecosystem, I find ThinkPads the only satisfying PC laptop experience. The quality is similar to Apple, they have fabulous keyboards, and Lenovo isn't trying to copy Apple's design aesthetics

Just as a general statement I'd say don't go any older than a Sandy Bridge Intel 2nd Gen CPU. That leaves you starting with an X220/T420/W520 and upward from there. They run Linux beautifully. I have Linux Mint on my T420 secondary to Windows 11. Most batteries are likely to be close to dead but you

Official Lenovo documentation sez that the X220, T420, T520 and other Sandy Bridge era machines support 8G of RAM maximum (2x 4G DIMMs). That is only because at that time, 8G DIMMs were not widely available for Lenovo to test and validate. These machines will support 2x 8G DIMMs, but not just any 8G

I miss the x220 with every press of the button. That's why I got a refurb SK-8855 when they popped up a few years ago.

Yes, they had real issues with power when they were trying to charge the battery and work at the some time. Throttling like crazy. This got successively better with BIOS updates, and the later ULV i5s (2537M) that I got were OK in that regard. No wonder, with 17W TDP instead of the 35 W TDP of the s

I currently have 24.04.2 installed on a Lenovo x220 Thinkpad as a secondary, and 25.04 on my main rig. 24.04.2 is solid (as an LTS should be), but it's missing the nice new improvements on GNOME 48. On the flipside, there are far fewer "not supported" comments on available extensions in Extension Ma
