Accidentally bought a x220 tablet, how to maximize battery life?

Nice on the purchase! The biggest increase the battery life will come from a new battery. I'm willing to bet the battery you currently have with it is quite old and doesn't even have 70% health left. The operating system won't matter too much for battery life. Unless you are leaving it idle for long

First used Thinkpad buying advice

Just as a general statement I'd say don't go any older than a Sandy Bridge Intel 2nd Gen CPU. That leaves you starting with an X220/T420/W520 and upward from there. They run Linux beautifully. I have Linux Mint on my T420 secondary to Windows 11. Most batteries are likely to be close to dead but you

X220. Are these all the "upgrades" I need to do to make it run it's best?

Yes, they had real issues with power when they were trying to charge the battery and work at the some time. Throttling like crazy. This got successively better with BIOS updates, and the later ULV i5s (2537M) that I got were OK in that regard. No wonder, with 17W TDP instead of the 35 W TDP of the s

X220 tablet and battery blues

The X220T is old enough that I wouldn't trust any original Lenovo battery. It's probably been 10 years since they manufactured one. So I would stick with 3rd party batteries.

Upgraded my T420 from a i5 2520M to a i7 2720QM but I have a 65 watt charger. Is that fine or do I need to buy a 90 watt charger?

It may not be enough. What I'd usually recommend nowadays is to get a USB-PD to square Lenovo adapter, and a square to IBM adapter. Hooking both up has (somehow) allowed my X220 to sense whether a 45W, a 65W or a 90W adapter is connected. If I used the 45W mode on my USB-C charger, it charged the ba

What’s the longest-lasting piece of tech you own?

I still use my 14 year old Lenovo X220 Tablet (convertible laptop/tablet). I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD 10 years ago, increased the memory a while ago, and I've had an extended battery and a battery dock since I got it. Still goes 3.5 hours on battery. I even installed a modified version of W

X220. Are these all the "upgrades" I need to do to make it run it's best?

I only did this after people were complaining to verify reports I saw in forums at the time. Gave 90W bricks to people who complained after that and deployed the BIOS updates Lenovo published - of course those needed to be tested beforehand, and they were frequent and followed by the next one in qui

X220 tablet and battery blues

I second this. I bought a genuine original Lenovo battery for my X220 (not tablet version) and it arrived totally uncharged. I charged it fully hoping for the best but only got slightly over an hour out of it. It had obviously been lying in an uncharged state and could barely be revived. Go with a 3

Windows Laptop Recommendation for Tech

I do a shit load of circuit TTUs and console work and I still use an old T430s with a 3rd gen i7 (I have quite a collection of IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads). I'm restricted to circuits up to 5Gbps due to the machine only having USB3.0 ports but it gets the job done. Only other issue is finding good genuine
