2nd-hand X1 Carbon Gen 9 had a non-working USB-C port, didn't expect to see this
There is a reason why Lenovo is selling certified refurbished X1 Carbon Gen 9 with high spec for dirt cheap at the moment. If it sounds to be good to be true… There is a inherent issue with gen 9 unfortunately so they had a huge return back to base from corporate rerun.

Unhappy X1(G9) owner, want some advice downgrading
4k display kills your battery. Avoid X1 Carbon if you don't like soft touch coating. Some other models might have a soft touch as well, so look that up before buying. I'd go with the same CPU you had, 1185g7 is a good option on a budget. Or AMD 6650u, 6850u are still powerful enough, battery efficie

X9 vs X1 Carbon - Pricing
I'd go for T14, maybe t14s or X9 - the X1 Carbon always was "expensive, but cool and slow", it was never about being a good deal I also hate to say it, but if you are not overly attached windows/linux, just get a macbook. Even refurbished M4 Pro or something like that will be miles ahead in terms of

MacBook Air M1 is the best purchase I have ever made
The X1 Carbons and T series feel nice (especially recent ones) but they're not a solid piece of metal so they're always going to have some creak compared to a MacBook. But the hinges are very solid and the keyboard praise is real. There are a lot of other compromises though compared to a MacBook. Wi

Switched from M2 Air to the X1 Carbon 13th Gen. Some first impressions
_UPDATE 2: I returned it. The coil whine was driving me mad. It was not only during load but it also appeared during less stressfull scenarios like browsing and office work :/ Total no go for me. You can find a youtube link in this post. Then there was the issue with the speakers doing a "plop" soun

Must be doing something right
Factory defect, with a sleepstate issue, units when shut down for a few days or more would no longer POST or charge. CMOS battery was/is fully charged, requiring a pin-hole reset to temporarily resolve the issue. Solution is board replacement, this issue was prevalent in both the X1 Carbon Gen 9 and

Personal laptop
I feel like a Macbook Air is excellent value for money at that price point. If you want a good ThinkPad (say X1 carbon) you'll probably need to pay more. But maybe do the research and ask a question based on exact models you can get at that price point locally.

Switching from M1 Pro to used X1 Carbon for personal use — will an i5-1235U keep up with a full stack dev workload on Linux?
- Is the i5-1235U going to bottleneck me noticeably for this kind of workload? No, but it's the least efficient processor generation that was ever released under the "core i" marketing umbrella. So battery life isn't good compared to the machines older or younger than it. - Would you go Gen 10 i5 or s

Will this laptop handle fedora KDE well ?
I have this exact one so i assume my words will be of help, first to answer your question, it flies with fedora Now to the more important topic, it's a peice of junk, it WILL break, not linux, the laptop's physical frame, more specifically the hinge, it's not a matter of if it will break, it's a mat

Where does the common idea/meme that Linux doesn't "just work" come from?
Genuine question: do you think that people don't experience problems with Linux? The way you're phrasing the question in your 2nd paragraph makes it sound like you've not seen the frequest support posts that are made every day on practically every linux subreddit. I'm sure there are some idiots out
