Every few years there will be a change people don't like and and a new 'last true thinkpad' will be crowned. Idiots will overpay to get it despite better machines being available for the same if not cheaper price. When I started following this it was the T60 because the T61 that followed it was the

You're tilting at windmills. I don't think Lenovo will remove the TrackPoint from models like the T14, but if they are going to do it, some "consensus" on this sub isn't going to stop them. And no, the T440p clunkpad doesn't prove your point at all; it was changed because it was bad to use. There ar

Hate is justified for the clunkpad - not because it's a bad trackpad, but because it was Lenovo's first salvo of attacks on Trackpoint users - the people who's loyalty kept ThinkPad relevant in the era of ever more svelte Apple hardware knockoffs. The x9 is the 3rd salvo in the war against the nub.

The T440p being the last great ThinkPad? I dunno. The moment that Lenovo started using that shitty island-style keycaps, things started going down hill. By that metric alone, the T420 was the last great ThinkPad. The only things for me that it'd be missing to be perfect, would be USB-C charging. But

u/Aryodor_Archinov, i had the exact behaviour with one of my Thinkpads (not a T440p --although I also have a T440p-- but instead a T560). In my case, my laptop had been having the same behaviour, sporadically, and it started just as you mentioned in your post, one day, laptop working, the next day,

Okay, you know what you're talking about and I retract my previous statement (though I still assert that two root hubs presented to the software is absolutely the norm in every laptop I've used or fixed in the past 15 years). I know the vast majority of this already - my CSci specialism was in compu

Yes, everything is still correct except for that the world has moved on, technology has progressed and Renoir-based Ryzen ThinkPads such as the base 4500U E14 are more efficient and greatly outperform a decked out T440p at a similar cost should be replaced with "Thinkpads with the 6th Gen Ryzen and

Hinge design? Who cares if it's good? - I do The overbuilt robust hinge has always been a defining characteristic of the T series. The hinge could easily be a weak point or failure point on a notebook. The T series answer was just a beefy overkill design. The T series historically was the "built lik
