Framework is keeping its word and making older hardware compatible with newer hardware, the only way to gradually create a market standard.
Backwards-compatibility is a super important part of upgradability. This is what, for me, gives the Framework Laptop 13 the edge over the recent reparable ThinkPads. If I buy a ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and then a few years from now either my mainboard dies or I want to upgrade to a newer generation CPU, I

Thinkpad T14S Gen 5 - Why aren't there a lot of reviews for this version?
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T14s-Gen-5-laptop-review-The-premium-T-ThinkPad-with-Intel-Core-Ultra.866472.0.html 165H should be better, but less battery life (comparable to Zen 3 IIRC?). Not sure how it cools the 165H. T14s positioning is horrible in recent gens, especially Intel, a

This is ridiculous tbh
That's the best part; you don't know how widespread this may actually/truly be. Not a lot of users immediately go to Reddit and say "LOOK AT MY GREEN LINE" I worked at Lenovo during the release of the X1 Carbon 9th generation; the internet still has notes on "what was happening" but it's a few spora

My T14 Gen 5 AMD Experience: I bought it, I used it, I sold it
Materials wise I mean it's a stepdown because the T480s and T14 G5 are different tiers. It's like comparing the T480s to the T480 - T--s is always much more premium. It's just a heavier X1C honestly. Thermals wise, I mean the T480s would have been able to sustain around (EDIT: I checked, was around

I’m starting to resent my T480
Before spending money on a newer laptop, ditch the Windows11 and reset your T480 to the state it was in when it was new. Then update the Win10 to the latest 22H2 release, check that Microsoft Update doesn't replace any Lenovo-supplied drivers with generic ones and enroll in ESUs to keep receiving se

r/singapore random discussion and small questions thread for August 04, 2026
This time last year I bought a ThinkPad T14. It had two RAM slots; one 16 GB and the other empty. I filled the empty slot with 32 GB and figured I could replace the 16 GB with 32 GB in the future if the need arose. Looking at how RAM prices have gone to hell, I regret not doing that from the start.

Guide: T14G5/6(AMD+Intel) P14sG5/6 (AMD) 16 inch mod + glass trackpad.
I beg the question; Why wouldn't someone start with a T16 instead? I get price, but the hassle is quite a bit much, especially when certain parts may or may not be available from other vendors, forcing you to go through Lenovo. Also, how does the T14 Gen 5 AMD not work with the numpad, but work at t

Which T14 should I get?
Basic desktop usage is gonna be "fine" on anything with four cores, 16gb of ram or better, SSD or better, intel 8th gen and AMD ryzen 2nd or newer and with supported graphics. That line applies to both windows 11 (close to those are the official requirements) and linux. All "T14" models are newer th

Advice on eGPU choices for Thinkpad
I think it largely depends on you. I personally use ThinkPad T14 gen 3 with thunderbolt egpu from ADTLink with RTX 5060 Ti, also Arch Linux and I have no issues besides frame gen and hot swap at times. About your choices, you pretty much got it all figured out, I would add a little bit more to think
