Skip all the hype brands. Durable laptops with good Linux support are made by only 3 companies: Dell, Lenovo and HP. Discard all other options. I would get a P1, I have a gen 7, which would be out of your price range, but you can get a gen 4. I think it's the closest to a Macbook you could get. If you want new, A P14s Gen 6 AMD is at the top of your budget, but is a killer machine for sure.
