Kobo clara bw. It might be more expensive than the kindle basic but it's waterproof and has warm light and the kindle basic doesn't have those. You might also wait a couple of days and see if it will get any discounts.

Kobo also isn't actively against it's reading demographic. I'm happy to spend so much money from the daily deals, bookbub, and use my Google rewards on books from the Google store. Bonus points for them allowing library rentals through the Libby app because everything I just mentioned is not possibl

Not sure how to make the most of the X4
I have a Kobo Clara BW and a X4. I just read separate books on them so i don't need to sync them. Basically Kobo is now my bedtime reader and X4 is my EDC reader. If you are using crosspoint (i think everyone should, at least a fork of it) it's epub compatibility is great for me so far so you do won

You’re Canadian? Kobo is in Toronto. Just a note. But more importantly, the devices are repairable and well built, plus the policies are pretty user-friendly.
