They all use basically the same technology, but Kobo includes almost everything across their lineup, while Amazon gatekeeps a lot of features, like the warm front light not being available on the basic Kindle, or automatic warm light adjustment being limited to the Signature Edition

I didn’t know about this at all. I just load ebooks on to my Clara BW, over USB from Calibre, and they appear under My Books. You probably don’t need Calibre, just connecting the Kobo like an external disk and copying ePub files works too. When I disconnect, it imports the ePubs to My Books.
