An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Sorry for the incoming wall of text; just trying to be thorough and hopefully illustrative/helpful. I won't say there was no learning curve, of course, but it was also a lot easier than I thought it would be. My first 40% was a Mercutio, which still generally has most of the typical typing cluster o

Epomaker's Unhinged Layout

I guess I've been using 40s for ten years so am used to them. they almost all have similar compromises but to me that's the joy of it. I think many people also use one of the space bars for enter too. the one exception you may like is the keychron q9 40 which is more like a 45, so bigger than most 4

SA Blank Selectric

Upvote for the SA.How the hell does a 40 board work. Still don't get the thing (Keychron Q9). What are you using it for? How do you quickly enter IP addresses, json or whatever text, complex passwords, write in a language with 35 letters or play simulator games? :)

I am 40% there

So I'll give you a few words on each. Hyper40: Probably my favorite but likely hard to find. You get to have two numpads and I mapped the layers so the numbers and cursor keys can be switched on both the left and right individually.MiniVan: A total classic and what might be the first major hit in th

Post your keyboard "unpopular opinions" here.

I consider the Keychron Q9 Plus to have the best staggered keyboard layout so far.

Keyboard recommendations and questions

I'm happy with my Keychrons (they are the very rare manufacturer with ISO and full size layout support). Q3, Q6, Q6, Q9, V6 Max, K10 Pro so far :)

Help deciding on new work keeb

My favorite office keyboards are: Crush 80 Beta Pro with stock switches and aluminum plate. It's got a muted Thock that is smooth and comfy to type on. Neo70 with carbon fiber plate and Milky Yellow Pro V2 switches. I love this configuration so much, I'd be willing to solder the board and never thin

Best ISO 40% I can think of is maybe a barebones ISO Keychron Q9 though technically it's more of a pseudo-40% IMO. Just slap an ISO DE or QWERTZ keycap set and you're good to go.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - September 23, 2025

Is this a good buy for 100 dollars or can I do better for the same price? My use case is to have a nice keyboard I can take and use with my iPad. so I was thinking 40% keyboard and as small as possible and if possible wireless, but I cant seem to find many options. I am new to mechanical keyboards s

My weird little keyboard collection

I say that because the q9 seemed like an answer looking for a question. Dropping the number row and going into 40 world normally means you are going for a compact tight motion profile with as little hand motion and finger spread as possible. The q9 however keeps pretty much a standard 60ish width an
