Speakers that produce room filing sound that is enjoyable even off-axis
Quick short list (models I’d start with for “wide sweet spot”) If you want a tight, practical shortlist across price tiers: • Genelec 8351B / 8361A (active, reference-level coverage) • Revel M126Be or F226Be (passive, broad and consistent off-axis) • JBL HDI-1600 / HDI-3600 (waveguide + dynamic, wid

Kef R3 vs Q7 Meta
R3 is more linear/flat but tends brighter in the top end. The Q7 Meta goes about 30hz lower and rolls off very smoothly. The Q7 Meta is also much more similar in sound to your Q6 Meta so I'd see that as a big plus. My preference would be the Q7s for home theater and blending with your center. They'd

Is R3 Meta the right choice?
Late to the party and giving my two cents FWIW and in case this helps anyone in the future. Floor Standing Speaker Selection for "Extreme" Music Genres
I’m primarily metal guy too, so I absolutely needed proper clarity without being harsh. Big soundstage without smearing. Big fan of KEF r for this stuff. R3 meta would be hard to beat imo. Sounds natural. It won’t hide anything though.

New speaker day
Agreed. I listened to multiple KEF speakers (Q Concerto Meta; R3 Meta; R5 Meta; LS50 Meta); a couple of Paragigms; Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G; B&W), and these strike the right balance for me.

Floor Standing Speaker Selection for "Extreme" Music Genres
As a fellow metal lover, and someone that also listens to so much stuff across the musical spectrum, you’re definitely going to want a sub with both floorstanders or bookshelves. I even run subs with my expensive floorstanders. While they’re adequate on their own, it’s just really really tough to do

Something other than cope
What you are describing for the Reference 1's sounds like what I want. The microdetails, speakers disappearing, and notes/voices just hanging in the middle of the room or all over. Precise with a little warmth I think is probably where I am going, so long as it's not too pronounced or chesty with ma
