My mom's bog standard 80s Hitachi amp with 90s paradigm speakers sounds better than my system with KEF R3 Metas. Could be the room it was in.

KEF R-series is what I have right now. My KEF R3 Metas sound incredible. My dream setup would be the Focal Grande Utopia Em Evo’s. But I would literally need my house to be built around them, they are fucking huge lol

The kefs are excellent speakers. I think they play well with untreated rooms bc they’re not quite as wide as the bmr. You know you like them, I’d try to listen to r3 meta if you haven’t yet.

Was using Qobuz but switched to TIDAL because (a) Cheaper and (b) Supports Dolby Atmos (obviously for my Sonos speaker). Also sounds so good through my Hegel H190 powered KEF R3 Metas via Roon.

I spent about a year switching off between the KEF R3 Meta and Philharmonic BMR Monitors in my 2.2 setup. There were aspects of both I liked. I ultimately ended up selling the KEFs and keeping the Philharmonics though. Which Philharmonics do you intend to get? The Monitors, Towers, or HT Towers?

While the upgrade kits can be controversial, and I can see the benefit for those that love a specific speaker/design and wanting it to be the best, the GR Research speakers are fantastic. I love my R3 Meta with dual subs integrated with room perfect. Most people would probably say my equipment vastly exceeds my speaker (ie spend 80% of your budget on speakers) but I have yet to see a set I would want to move up to. Kef reference? $10k for a 2% improvement in the low end doesn’t seem
