Yea not uncommon unfortunately I remember a similar controversy might have been Hotspot shield was it? It was the top free VPN at the time people were using it for Netflix and what not while it was quietly highjacking peoples connections for god knows what.

LetsVPN is the most reliable for me. Been using it for 2 years. I tried expressvpn but that was a waste of money, i also used hotspot shield but it wasn't always working.. Clash works but not sure where to get the service, it was installed by my Chinese friend.

Use a VPN that supports port forwarding. Enable port forwarding. Enjoy much higher upload speeds (if your bandwidth supports it, and there is enough demand on the torrents you're seeding). Hotspot Shield is not a good VPN for torrenting, especially not if you want to seed a lot.
