Training gut for higher fuel intake

Have you considered ditching syrup for a liquid high carb drink mix? On my weekend 2.5 hour long run I took two 500mL soft flasks: one was 6 scoops of GU Roctane powder (about 177g of carbs and 105mg caffeine total) dissolved in 500mL of water, and the other was just water. The drink mix was not thi

Favorite non-gel race fuels

I really like high carb drink mixes like Formula369, GU Roctane, etc. Can easily get 180g of carbs in 500mL of water. Probably way more. Still drinks like liquid instead of thick like gel.

Completed my first xc race today need, looking for some tips.

You can train what's called repeatability. Basically you do reasonably short intervals a good number of times, ideally with limited rest and tailored to the next racecourse. If you're new, you should see big gains reasonably quickly doing 2 interval sessions a week for 4 weeks, with a plateau after

Constant GI issues

Are you drinking any water on your runs? It sounds like no. Gels will pull water into your gut and can cause cramping, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, etc. I switched to high carb drink mix instead and have zero discomfort. I am now up to 80g/hour of either GU Roctane (with caffeine) or Formula369 (with

112 mile fueling

Just seeing that OP is still in high school. You’re going to want at least 50-100 grams of carbs per hour. If you were just doing the ride, 50 would usually be enough, but since in the race, you’ll have a whole marathon after the ride, you need to use the ride to overfuel so you’ve got energy for th

Your favorite electrolyte mix for racing that's not too sweet?

I’m a big fan of Gu Roctane drink mix in the strawberry hibiscus flavor. The tartness of the hibiscus means it’s not too sweet. Somehow I never get sick of it even after using it as my main source of carbs for hours late in races. And I usually get sick of things quickly!

Thoughts on Hyperlyte?

Hyperlyte is pretty good but I don't think it is flavored (at the bags I bought weren't). It's pretty much just maltodextrin, fructose, and sodium so it kind of tastes like maltodextrin. Similarly, The Feed brand high carb mix tastes like maltodextrin. GU Roctane grape and summit tea (caffeinated) a

Learning how to use gels

I like liquid carbs so the Gu Roctane Hydration mix is awesome, has 60g carbs and caffeine. I like having that and water on long runs. I also like Muir Energy gels - they taste like fruit roll ups, not nasty like some of the other gels but thicker in consistency. I also really liked Clif blocks but
