Gmktec m7 and m5
This is correct. The only things in common between the GMKtec M7 and M5 is the brand, 16 thread CPU, two RAM slots, and dual 2.5GB ethernet which is barely anything. If they were the same computer, they would have the same name. Their differences are size, different 6850H vs 5825U or 5700U CPU, diff

Why did you buy a minipc?
I recently bought a gmktec m5 plus for lab purposes. I put proxmox on it (and I'll make it my router + Nas + a few other things), it's really efficient and quiet and can be kept on non stop without seeing something on the electricity bill.

Low Idle CPU recommendation in 2025?
I went for a Ryzen 7 5825U, a GMKtec M5 plus with 64 GB RAM, 2 TB NVME + 512 NVME + additional 4 TB NVME via USB-C (total ~ 16 watt in idle) with proxmox and multiple VMs. Next a Topton N100 firewall opnsense (idle 10w), a 2nd Ryzen 7 5825U Topton used as NAS,, 64 GB RAM, with 1 HDD (16 TB), 4 TB SA
