My 12 year old has become obsessed with cooking. She has asked for a chefs knife for her birthday. Do you have any recommendations under $300? Thank you
Anthony Bourdain recommended the Global G-2. They’re affordable and pretty cool looking, but I don’t really know what else is out there. I use a Tramontina chef’s knife.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie?
I got the one recommended by Anthony Bourdain (RIP) = "Anthony Bourdain famously recommended the Global 8-Inch Chef's Knife (G-2) as the primary, and often only, knife a cook needs. He praised it for being lightweight, sharp, affordable, and durable, noting it is excellent for both professionals and

Why are Global knives hated on so much? Is the quality of the knives really that bad?
Makes sense. I personally wouldnt pah MSRP for a global. I bought a 3 piece set for 110 USD on the official global store including the G-2, GS-5, and GS-61. I thought 36 USD per knife seemed very reasonable.

I got a set of 3 global knives for 110 USD off of the official global store. A G-2 + GS-5 + GS-61. Happy with the quality for 36 USD per knife.

Looking for something under 200 Euros for my boyfriend. Would appreciate your help!
Global 8" chef's knife is an all around winner at only $99 USD https://www.globalcutleryusa.com/classic-g-2?srsltid=AfmBOoryUqVzN8AwCCzR6-vt0Fiy4L-ULIBO-SyqBDtS8c3N3mayWsjm That being said, a knife is a highly personal choice and what one person loves someone else might not like. Which one is most fun to use and worth the money? Global G2 (currently 819SEK)? GF-98(1158SEK)? GF-33(1799SEK)? Another model? (NI / Olive sharpened?) Würsthof Classic(1095SEK), Classic Ikon (1395SEK)? I have average sized hands and I am an amateur and haven't used a brand better than IKEA.
Get yourself the G-2. Not only is it far cheaper, but it's also just the better choice. All three Global knives use the same steel. The GF-98 has double the thickness of the G-2, and that will negatively impact how easily the knife glides through product. The geometry of a knife is more important th
