A GL.iNet Slate AX (GL-AXT1800) Travel Router would be nice. I have several that I always bring for the racks I babysit, so I can go around front and configure and adjust without a tether.

Shots fired (back) feat. UTR
From PERSONAL experience trying these devices, yes, I can say that the Mudi 7 is a significantly better product. I have PERSONALLY used WiFi 7 on a certain device while traveling. You seem to think that the only time it is used on hotel WiFi. What about coworking spaces where you can use RJ-45? Some

Tech question: going to be in Thailand several months found an apartment to rent and they have internet included. There’s an Ethernet cord and wifi but I would prefer to use a private router that I can put a VPN on?
You'll want something like the GL-iNet Beryl or Slate AX - they're solid travel routers that can run VPN clients directly on the device. Just plug the ethernet into the router, set up your VPN service on it, then connect your devices to the router's wifi instead of the apartment's network

Travel router PSA - OpenVPN is not available on launch
Yep. I have 2 of the smaller Slate's, then they went to the larger Slate AX which I have 4 of (I use for event work). I wish they weren't as big, but I love how they perform in multiple environments. Interested in what Ubiquiti is doing here, but would take a lot to pull me away from the GL.iNet pro

Center field camera?
Hey-sorry so late to the party. For the Over the Shoulder-Pitcher to Batter shot, you cannot go wrong with the VM33 and its 40X hybrid Zoom. However, as I tell some of my friends, it really depends on what you want to spend (which I believe you indicated $0 if you could get away with it), high def c

What can I do with rasp pi 3B?
I use mine as remote control Juke Boxes with MPC (pain to set up and a challenge to maintain, but when it works. it works well). I use my home automation system (OpenHAB) to control them. I could (and have) triggered a playlist from 3 states away :D. I was using the Pi3s as my hotel streaming server

Suggestion for Tailscale capable travel router
Hello! You've come to the right place. I don't know of any other router better for VPNs and Tailscale than GL.iNet. The one caveat, which you will hear a lot if you read online enough, is that there is no official "kill switch" for Tailscale on these routers. This just means if you happen to have a

Posting this on my flight from my secondary device that did not pay for the Wi-Fi
I have this, a Beryl AX, Slate AX, and a few other devices that I am under NDA about. The Ubiquiti router doesn't have the features of the GL.iNet devices, can be powered by power banks, and are not much bigger - the size of a deck of cards. Further, they have the ability to setup VPNs, AdGuard, and

I've used both models and can confirm they are excellent, and upvoted as such. I also used to use a Hootoo TripMate Nano back before switching to GL.iNet products. My home & remote router is the same Slate AX and has been in use since 2023. I switch over to my parents' Beryl when house-sitting. No p

Anything better than Mevo Start?
You should periodically check Amazon refurbished, or use the new price alert/auto buy tool with their bot. And that Sounds great! Thanks for offering. I was actually just talking to a fellow Redditor in the r/WiFi bc I run a GL.iNet BE3600 Slate 7 as my main hub seeing how it runs dual-band 2.4Ghz,
