Fellow Opus. Baratza ESP also a great option. I’ve had both because I’m sick in the head. Fellow is a little quieter, looks better, but has some grind retention issues that don’t both me but may bother you. I like that the Opus has a timer to stop, so I don’t have to run across my house to stop grin

x64 looks awesome! Probably would look great next to an all black ES-1. And I hear that Opus paired best with the Aiden, that's one machine I don't have from Fellow lol but at least you can keep both dialed in separately!

The problem is what appears to be pre-ground coffee. Pre-ground coffee is made for drip coffee machines and not much else, it’s far too coarse for espresso. There is pre-ground coffee made specifically for espresso machines but even that is sometimes ground too coarsely for espresso. Your best bet h

I got a chance to play around with one of these at a fellow es1 class. let me tell you, for $200, there is nothing on the market even close to it. the stepless adjustment is maybe a touch too firm, but the action is smooth and its the right balance between dialing in to exactly where you want it, bu

The espresso machine doesn't have to be fancy. They're just pushing water through coffee grounds and even the cheapest ones do 20 bar. You don't need more than 9 bar. I'd ask you if you really like espresso first. Also, where are you getting your beans from? Most people who get into it only do so af

First of all: Its definitely good to have two separate grinders for light and dark roasts, to avoid flavor change of the light roast by the dark. There is also less cleaning with lighter roasts. Recommend to keep that. :) For light roasts, you can either consider the Ode Gen2 (I have it, and there i

If you want good espresso at all you’ll want to get a burr grinder. Baratza encore esp or fellow opus are great entry levels. Both around $200

if you can extend your budget I would get him an electric grinder. I know most people are going to reccomend manual but he will likely really appreciate a decent electric grinder rather than manually grinding. I would reccormend the baratza encore ESP or like the fellow opus if you can afford it.
