VPN and ESIM Megathread – August 2026

Astrill & Wannaflix are good services. ExpressVPN and Surfshark have never worked and are trash VPNs. Only use services with VLESS-Reality, Shadowsocks, (sometimes Trojan / Xray / V2Ray). Also, these are NOT apps! These are configurations/protocols for VPN/Proxy programs like FlClash, Shadowrocket,

Using a VPN reduced my ping from ~450ms to ~22ms consistently

Nice, good to hear, this is a routing issue not a speed issue where your fix makes sense. Saw this pattern with Cablevision/Optimum infrastructure before. Saw similar improvements after moving to ExpressVPN on the router. Latency usually drops not because the VPN is faster, but because it bypassed t

I hate the majority of YouTube sponsors

They are very solid. You hit the nail on the head. They don't advertise in YouTube and they actually do what they advertise. Express VPN being like "have you tried leaving the VPN running 24+ hours straight so it can connect?" Yes I did, and it still didn't work.

Do I have any hope of actually getting to be a Sharks fan in the streaming era?

I tried express vpn in the past and it just kept getting blocked. Is it better now?

long term vpn china?

If you're going to be in China for years, I'd honestly skip the free options. Free VPNs tend to get blocked fast or sell your data. For long term stability you're better off with a paid service that actively updates its servers. Astrill is still the most reliable for China, including Chengdu. It's e

Well yes the internet is heavily filtered but there is always some ways to connect to the internet. many popular vpn services like expressvpn, nordvpn or Windscribe are heavily restricted or blocked. The authorities actively try to detect and block known vpn servers and protocols so commercial vpns

When I use any VPN I can't connect to any site using cloudflare.

I see that sometimes with both ExpressVPN and AirVPN. If it’s a site that accepts my payments, I complain and send them diagnostic info. If they tell me to drop my VPN connection, I explain that as a former security engineer, that would open my system to security threats. They usually open it up, bu

VPN and ESIM Megathread – August 2026

Currently in China, ExpressVPN and Surfshark both are borderline unusable. Any recommendations? T-Mobile roaming plan any good?
