Youfibre 2000 upgrade questions
I upgraded last week to the 2000 plan. I have the Sagemcom WiFi 7 Hub connected to the ONT. I then have ethernet running from the Hub's 2.5G port to my main PC and get 2Gbps on it. What’s the best overall WiFi router for home use these days?
Yep same I have 3 x Eero 6+ in a long old double brick semi and it works a treat. No need to hardwire anything. I used to have TP-Link but the Eeros are much easier to setup and more reliable.

Best budget mesh system for a UK semi-detached?
Either eero 6+ or tplink deco. Both easy to setup and will be perfect for your needs.

Netgear 7800 EOL - what should I do? Flash software or buy new router?
that's what I meant I think Brainslayer (the DDWRT dev) said they won't be doing DDWRT for Wifi 6/7. To OP's point playing is fine, but a $50 used Eero 6+ or a $150 Eero 7 would probably be a better "idiot proof" solution. I'm a network engineer in day job but use a single Eero 7 at home. Honey like
