Need help choosing what player to ask for
Neither of those cheap brands are worth spending any money on. Better Fluance RT81 $255 on sale from $299 with built in phono preamp. Plus Starter powered speakers: For a large room or a medium size room if you have room for them, large 6.5" mid bass driver Dayton Classic B65A $159. For a medium siz

Upgrading wife from a suitcase record player
Pass on the bare minimum AT-LP60X that lacks adjustments. Better entry level turntables worth buying that have adjustable tonearms: Manual with cue lever and auto stop Fluance RT80 $249. Automatic Denon DP-300F $249. Plus starter powered speakers with wired input for the turntable plus Bluetooth for

Best option for a 13yr old
Pass on the AT-LP60 that had some issues when it was new and can have even more issues used. If you are going to buy a used bare minimum AT-LP60 then at least get the new X version AT-LP60X that fixed the issues that the older AT-LP60 had. The better Denon DP-300F $249 on sale upgrades to an adjusta

Advice on gift?
For $180 you get low quality components with low quality control and the cheap speakers are the worst part. Most anything good and worth buying can cost twice as much. The bare minimum AT-LP60X $139 on sale at least has better quality control and is easy setup beginner plug and play. Better entry le

Recommendations under $250.
Consider $250 for just the turntable. If you can't afford both a turntable and speakers then consider starting with just the speakers for your digital music then adding the turntable later. ------- Speakers: Powered speakers for a medium size room: 5.25" Neumi BSP5 $219 add a subwoofer output, a rem

Wood turntable recs
If you are new to turntables, maybe put aesthetics aside and try to focus on the quality you need. It will save you money in the long run. I started out with a U-Turn Orbit with a built-in preamp, and I picked up speakers from Edifier but got the R1280DBs so that I could add a sub later. It's a very

Looking at the AT LP70X or LP120USB
AT-LP70X is entry level fully automatic and easy setup beginner plug and play with a fixed tonearm and fixed cartridge. Better turntables upgrade to an adjustable tonearm and a removable cartridge: AT-LP3X is automatic. AT-LP120X $349 originally $499 is a step up manual with cue lever, has a better

All-in-one record player - beginner under $400
Why not separate speakers? Because you don't want a large stereo receiver? It's not needed, you can get a pair of small powered speakers with a built in speaker amp with wired input for the turntable plus Bluetooth input for wireless music from a smartphone, tablet or computer. Turntable: Automatic

New to this!
Following this comment, I just bought my first turn table last month and this was the same advice I received. I bought an "Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-BK" with "Edifier R1280DBs Active Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers". It's easy to set up and it sounds great.
