Is it possible to run an M1/M2 macbook air logic board independently?
Yes! Exactly that. The Air’s throttling is fine. My use won’t be heavy loads. Web browser, soft phone, and a few apps. That’s it. Right now I’m stuck lugging an XPS 16 9640. They spoiled me with the Core9 Ultra and 4070 but… I very much do not like Windows.

Dell XPS 13 9370, I got this bad boy for about 57$ USD
Funny. I just rescued an XPS 15 9500 from the recycle bin at work. Stole RAM from another machine that had two 8GB sticks but had a bad mobo, popped in a $40 Dell OEM battery off eBay, and it works perfectly! It’s spotless. Apparently it died a few months into use and they never do anything with jt

7590 won't use Nvidia GPU.
You ever solve this? After going through everything you have described with my xps. For me what finally got my 4080 being used was Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings>change advanced power settings>PCI Express>Link State Power Mgmt>Set to off Xps 16 9640 Windows 11 pro

Engineering Laptops
Model matters most. You can’t generalize gaming laptops because they aren’t consistent. Some gaming laptops suck and the ones that suck seem to control the narrative. Everyone thinks are big, hot, clunky, loud, and have shit battery life. In reality as long as you look beyond just specs, watch revie

What should I get? I do engineering so theres a lot of CAD and plus I want it long term
For CAD go for a P series with a discrete GPU. Or an HP ZBook, Dell XPS or Precision.Make sure they are the models with a separate GPU.

Dell XPS 16 : should I pull the trigger ?
Panther like is CPU, not GPU (processor vs graphics processing unit). For gaming you absolute want a discrete GPU. Integrated graphics like the ones on the new Dell XPS are good for very low res light gaming at best.

Dell Premium 14/16 decision
One other thought on the form factor - I have a Precision 5680 as my main machine, and Precision 5570 as a backup (bought on a similar refurbished sale last summer.) The 5680 is something of a chunkier 16" than the XPS 16 (9640) and presumably the Premium 16, and I kind of go back and forth about wh

Dell Premium 14/16 decision
I have been in the it industry for close to 30 years, so I feel I have a good handle on what I need internally... I was looking to get some insights on form factor experience. Given the point of comparison is a 2018 model that's two chassis back (the XPS 9570) even the 16" will feel quite a bit thin

Dell Premium 14/16 decision
First, you don't discuss what you need it for, and why you're upgrading now. This is important, as other than the size this will drive a lot of the decision. If you don't need the highest-power processor and/or a high end dGPU (and you're US-based) DellRefurbished is selling the Precision 5570 for a

Alienware 16X Aurora Unboxing and First Impressions
Unfortunately, this is a practice that Dell already knows. On my Inspiron 16 Plus 7640, the TGP reported for the 4060 in the Nvidia Control Panel is 70W, but Dell blocked it at 60W. The same goes for the XPS 16 9640 with 4070...
