Does the XPS 15 9350 support external GPU?
Regardless if you're talking about the 9530 or the 9350, most "recent" Intel CPU boards have TB3 or higher, so as long as you have that you will run a USB powered eGPU fine. I would check the spec sheet for your laptop on the Dell website, if you still have the OEM apps installed there should be one

I desperately need a good reliable laptop (No Apple)
If you're an art major I might consider something like the Surface Pro. With the keyboard case it's a pretty good laptop that's also a pretty decent art tablet with the Surface Pen.
