PC repair shop scammed me

Wait a minute, $136 for a 500GB SATA Crucial BX500? That's an absolute rip-off. I'd be asking for a refund on the SSD and at least a partial refund on the labor charges. Then buy the SSD myself.

Which GPU is worth it for my budget?

I would recommend you first upgrade your psu before purchasing any gpu that requires an 8pin power cable. An msi mag a550bn or any C rated psu in the ph psu tier list. Then maybe also upgrade to a 500gb sata ssd, dynaquest has the crucial bx500 for 4k. Re gpus, id stay away from buying bnew rtx 3050

How do I know if my hard drive is corrupt?

It definitely sounds like your hard drive is starting to fail or has developed bad sectors, especially since the file system repairs didn't fix the asset-loading issues during cutscenes. Before completely giving up on the drive, here are the steps you should follow to confirm if it's dead, along wit

PC building after a decade, Need advice on components.

I would say just wait for amd and nvidia to reveal their cards before buying a gpu, since your build is AM5 based it will be worthwhile to wait and utilise their pcie 5.0 cards for insane performance, make sure your motherboard has pcie 5.0 slot. Put a placeholder card on it for now like rx550 costi

Crucial BX500 500GB showing 0% health in CrystalDiskInfo after only 12.4 TB written

Holy Write Amplification Batman! That drive's WAF is over 45x. A normal value is more like 2-3x. I'm guessing you haven't checked the SMART status in a long time. It's showing an average block erase value of 2368. These drives generally report zero life remaining at 1500. The bad news is the drive h

Best gaming setup with an old i5-7600k ?

Second this. 1660 super, stick a crucial 500gb SSD in it. Doesn't HAVE to be an m.2, crucial sata drives are still pretty zippy. (I have a P3 Plus and a bx500 and they're both really good. 600w psu to be safe. Could probs get away with 500w but not worth risking a fail mid gaming sesh. If you can fi

Need Advice for Reliable SSDs

Thanks for the detailed reply. That's a fair point about Kingston, I'm just not sure I could trust one of their SSD as anything but a backup that doesn't get used frequently. Also thank you for pointing out the QLC-NAND bit, the Crucial one that I found (BX500) was with this kind of drive and I'd de

Upgrading old PC for a family member

Thank you. Yes everything is as it was on day one. Windows was reinstalled a couple of times during the years. I plan to do a clean windows install on it. It's just for browsing, so no games, no movies, no heavy programs, maybe some youtube. I found SSD 500GB Crucial BX500 2.5" for okay price

My PC Disk usage is constantly at 100%! Help!

In my case a friend was right in recommending I ditch my dramless Crucial BX500 for a drive with dram cache (I still use it as a game drive / Steam) current OS drive is a 500GB 860 EVO which has dram cache and I haven't seen any random 100% usage spikes since installing it several years ago.
