Noise on M43 still a thing?
It depends on the camera and what you’re comparing it to. For me personally noise hasn’t been an issue since the day both companies finally retired the classic 12MP Panasonic LiveMOS sensor. All 16MP and 20MP sensors have been fine, and the latest 25MP sensor in the G9ii is actually better than Cano

Does every birder eventually say "I need a better camera!"?
I’m using the Sigma 150-600 f5-6.3 contemporary. I think this is the same lens as yours. It works very, very well with my R5mkII. The reason for this is the faster sensor readout speed on the newer Canon R-series cameras. The only cams I can confirm this lens works well on are: R5mkII R6mkIII The ma

Upgrading from DSLR to astro-dedicated camera
I agree. The 90D is an excellent low light astro camera. The Canon 90D and the Canon R5 are the two cameras that I have tested and/or seen data for that show impressive low signal uniformity with low noise. The 90D and R5 are currently my main cameras for astro. I will not buy the R7 II until I see

Sigma 17-40 f/1.8 for Canon R7?
The lens I think is the best comparison is the Tamron 28-75, which is 25% cheaper, and has 10mm more on the long end. OP could buy the Nikon Z5ii or Sony a7iii, both with the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 G2, and still come out with a bit of money on top, as opposed to buying the R7 and 17-40. The Sigma is the

Full-frame or crop sensor camera?
Just not true, no amount of tech can really make up for the size advantage So you feel the full frame 1Ds Mk II from 2004 is better at 6400 ISO than the APS-C R7? The Z5 II is 1 year old (2025) and was "build around a new sensor" source. The R7 was released in 2022. Also most people on the internet

If the Panasonic G9 Mark III were to be released, what would your expectations be?
And there’s the elephant in the room. The sensor has reached its limit, you can’t go higher than 25MP in a M4/3 sensor … This is of course not true at all. State of the art is mobile phone sensors and they are much ahead of the "big sensors". If you were to take for example this sensor and even if y

Invest in better dslr lenses or a cheaper full frame mirrorless and lenses?
If your biggest want is the e-shutter and its high frame rate, keep an eye out for readout time and rolling shutter. In Canon world, only the R1, R3 and R5ii have sensors fast enough to be similarly as good as a mechanical shutter. All others are 3-4x slower, and may have rolling shutter issues if y

Can’t get sharp pictures on Canon R7 + RF 100-400
IMO the bigger issue is that the sensor readout speeds on Canon APSC suck, so you need higher end lenses to compensate somewhat for the bad AF/slow readout speeds. Try switching to EFCS and see if it helps. IIRC even when tested by professional wildlife photographers who obviously are more skilled a

Did I buy the wrong camera?
So I got a canon EOS R7 a couple of weeks ago because I thought I wanted to do wildlife photography mainly. I took it to a few trips and honestly kinda liked it. However, I found that wildlife photography is maybe not the main type of photography that you wanna do. I would be more interested into la
