What brought you to the Z series?

Hobbyist. I was looking for the best bang for your buck full-frame mirrorless camera after using an entry-level Canon m50 for 6 years. I learned a lot on the little aps-c camera and how to work around its limitations, but the autofocus and low light performance is poor for my use cases (family/kids

Saturday at McCarren ft. Cherry Blossoms

People usually DM and ask me, so I started including it. The R6ii is hardly "fancy" it's a standard full frame mirrorless at this point, it's 4 years old. I'd argue this is on the lower end of full frame at this point for the canon line vs the R5 / R3 / R1. The lens was shared because it's an old M4

What’s a GAS purchase you regret and one that you can’t live without ?

THE REGRET (huge lettering): Buying Canon R6 II for better AF, after two decades of Nikon....... Canon is plain terrible on too many details. Can't live without: Z8 + Plena. Everything I do, I do with that combo... When there is a wider need, I just grab Tamron 28-75mm G2.. Enough.

Is the Z5ii really that good, or is it just all hype?

It's really that good. I don't own it, but I do own a Z6 III and a Zf and I've been following the Z5 II. Nikon took the tech in the Zf and stuck it in a modern body with a few tweaks here and there (like dual SD card slots rather than SD + mSD). But same sensor, same processor, same autofocus, same

Recently switched from Canon to Nikon. Finally took pictures that weren't of my kids!

I had the R10 and wanted to upgrade to full frame. I didnt like the R8 and wasn't interested in buying the R6 mkII when the R6 MkIII was around the corner. Also the RF system being closed turned me off. Went Nikon because of the feature set the Z5ii had over Canon, and the lens selection was superio

CANON R6 V

If you already had Canon RF glass it would be one thing, but, I would not be willing to replace a Sony 24-70 GM ii for an older EF lens with an adapter. I know someone with an R6ii paired with an EF 24-70 and that thing just sucks to use. Like you can feel the lens motors twitching back and forth wh

Canon user to Lumix S9

My wife went from being a Canon 15+ year user, got an S9 for an every day cam last year, really loved it and decided the cost of upgrading to RF glass (She had a R6 & R6II for wedding work) was way too much and now she's switched to a S1Rii and has upgraded her lenses for about half the cost. Do you

Back to Nikon - hooray!

The irony is that I had that exact complaint 12 years ago; I was running dance photography workshops as part of a (contemporary) dance festival I was running, and I’d hired a lot of cameras for participants. High ISO handling was featured with these Canon models, but I found I was having to use insa

Slowly becoming frustrated with the lack of innovation from Pentax

I got frustrated with the K1's auto focus performance when shooting live music in low light venues and decided to look for an alternative. I looked at the mid range mirrorless options from Canon, Nikon and Sony e.g R6ii, R8, Z5ii, A7iv. None of them have close to the K1's ergonomics or feature set.

Sony A7 with Minolta ARII 55/1.8 (1961-64) and Minolta MDIII 35-70/3.5 (1981-84)

I don’t have a newer A7 to compare it to but I really like it. If you’ve not used one before, in order to get focus, you use focus peaking. It glows yellow on the highlights that are in focus. On the A7 you can then press a button to do a digital zoom. On the digital zoom you can fine-tune it to rea
