It's time to check the competition

I'm not quite at the point of leaving RM altogether, but I will agree that colored e-ink just doesn't seem like it's a very reliable point in its development. Having both the RM2 and RMPP (and using both regularly), it definitely seems like monochrome e-ink is the more robust of the two. Makes me wi

my one page review of writing on the Go 10.3 Gen II

Well, I wish they implemented this on Palma 2 Pro. It might become a very good opponent to the RMPPM with this. Honestly, I didn't even consider buying it, but after each reviews I see, I keen to buy it. If I had seen this device earlier this year, I may not have even bought the Kindle Scribe 2025 (

Are e-ink note-taking devices like reMarkable worth it for software engineers?

The only one that work with a subscription (and it’s not an obligation to subscribe though) is the remarkable with connect. There is no hidden fees. I’m not a software engineer but considering your use of obsidian you might like the onyx Boox devices since it is an android google play enabled device

Outdoor usage

These devices (not just BOOX -- all glass-based eink!) are thin stacks of glass wrapped in aluminum. The glass eink substrate is brittle glass and can be cracked if bent. Don't bend your device or let anything place irregular pressure on the screen (like loose objects in a backpack) and you'll most

What I Wished I Knew Before Buying Boox Note Max

Same old argument. Same response from BOOX. Not a hill for me to die on. Other companies do the same. Thinking any tech company is ethical is naive. How many of us use tech from a company that has actually been prosecuted for malfeasance and don't know/care? Baffled by this. What is your frame of re

Dear Onyx, I’m a user, NOT your software tester! – DO NOT update to the 4.2 firmware.

What? Given how expensive these things are, I feel like they should be kind enough NOT to release garbage updates which the community is almost unanimously disappointed with. I loved my Boox Note Max and I wish there was an alternative.

BOOX Firmware V4.2 is here! Community-driven updates and a new thread for feedback.

An update to the Note Max would certainly be welcome! I hope they do release one soon. I do wish they would or could address the ghosting issue. It's the worst of my Boox devices. Not unusable but still it should be fixable.

If you had unlimited money, which would you buy?

Boox fanboys/company employees are a strange bunch. The company is absolutely dodgy shipping untested hardware at launch e.g 5AC and then abandoning it until they release a new iteration the following year. There is no long term support. Boox Note Max a year after launch still has major ghosting and

Thinking about Note Max 13.3, worried about Android 13 end of life

Does BOOX allow you to... This has nothing to do with being allowed. The update must come from BOOX. No one (to my knowledge) is working on custom ROMs for BOOX devices. The Note Max runs Android 13. BOOX has no record of updating Android versions. (They did once for one device, and it was handled v

Worried about buying the Note Max

"unprovoked screen breaks" most often means somebody didn't realize that these devices (for the most part) are thin stacks of glass wrapped in aluminum and if you bend them, or apply uneven pressure to the screen, the glass substrates will crack. And, yes, broken screens are not covered by warranty
