How does this look for a beginer setup

Why two belay devices? Skip the ATC, it’s antiquated, especially for gym climbing. Skip both carabiners, get a D shaped locker for the Grigri or Neox. Black Diamond has produced faulty avalanche beacons which have killed people, and BD put off issuing recalls - consider whether you want to trust and

Advice after top-rope belaying/lowering accident?

I’m a small person who often belays larger ones. I found the ATC a little too unforgiving, so I switched to a Black Diamond Pilot. Way cheaper than a grigi. The shape of the device gives you a clear, simple way to control the rope’s max speed alongside your brake hand. I use a Neox now (a lead-centr

Weekly Question Thread (aka Friday New Climber Thread). ALL QUESTIONS GO HERE

The ATC is ancient technology and you should belay with an assisted braking device. Petzl Grigri, Edelrid Pinch, Black Diamond ATC Pilot, Mammut Smart, Edelrid Giga Jul.... these are all devices that are objectively better for belaying.

First Belaying Device

Most versatile is definitely the edelrid giga jul. unfortunately, the edelrid giga jul is quite terrible with rope diameters above about 9.7 mm except for rappelling. my favorite way to rappel is actually with the edelrid giga jul in assisted mode. You can always buy an atc guide later if you start

the atc you have isnt really usefull on multipitch, not that it is the end of the world but something like black diamond guide or dmm pivot would be good to have. Some of my friends use mammut nordwand atc

How would this pulley system slow the descent of a climber?

It appears that it's from a small company in Australia: https://cowellengineering.com.au/products/slow-go-pulley It does specify design loads on the image here and says it satisfies EN 12572 which appears to be a standard for climbing equipment. But I couldn't find anything on their site, they have

Rate their racks: Netflix Apex opening climbing scene

Black diamond pilot would be better for icy conditions + it’s an assisted braking device, this ATC is not
