I’ve got Beyerdynamic’s DT 900 PRO X. Open-ended and very good clarity. In addition they’ve made a plugin called Headphone Lab which you can use directly in the DAW to emulate studio monitors and room acoustics, as well as completely flattening the frequency response. Very helpful.

Have the DT900 PRO and a pair of Maxwell's. My advice. Save your money you current headset is infinitely more comfortable and the wire is a minor inconvenience. The sound is different and much wider and open. You'll hate the weight of the Maxwell and "closed in" sound compared to open backs.

The ear cups are very very comfortable, the material is quite fluffy (more so than the 770/990 models) so with the closed back version I would expect a little bit of heat buildup but I doubt it's an issue since the cups are quite large, also proba

The headband thing on the 700 was a design defect that Beyerdynamic found and fixed after about a year of selling the headphones. They haven't fixed anything. Even the new version doesn't last much longer. I'm already on my third replacement headband for my three year old DT900 Pro X.
