This is likely the answer. I had the same thing happen with my Baratza Encore ESP. Take it apart and check that the plastic ring burr holder isn’t broken. That was my problem.

There are many other grinders now for $200 that outperform the baratza encore esp, where you don't have to worry about shims and are full metal construction. Two of which I mentioned.

I never had a rock or anything in my beans and my Encore ESP broke in the same way. I wonder if higher-end Baratza's are still quality, but IMO gone are the days that a lower-end Baratza will last. My last one lasted 10 years, latest one lasted 5 months.
