ASUS RT-AX86U (Merlin): How to allow kids content for 20 mins, then auto-block for 2 hours (network-wide)?
Phones can bypass any restrictions you implement on the network simply by turning off the WiFi and using LTE. Unless the kids are using deactivated phones that are 100% reliant on WiFi. Kids can and will learn how to change DNS on individual devices in order to zip right around whatever content limi

Qualcomm's next mobile connectivity chip ushers in the Wi-Fi 8 and Bluetooth 7 era
I skipped 6E and 7 entirely because of the same reasons. Even on my “old” Asus ax88u, I’m able to pull 700mbps over WiFi to my MacBook Pro and around 600ish on my iPhone 16 pro. There’s really no reason to upgrade unless you’re going multi gigabit and you really want to upgrade But even at that poin

Is a VPN Router Worth It?
I have one. It’s fantastic. But I whitelist devices. I don’t want my young kids having VPN access unless I manually turn it on. It was very easy to set up. I have an ASUS RT-AX88U. Just needed to upgrade the firmware to Asuswrt-Merlin. I don’t remember all the steps, but it was one of those things w

In case TP-Link gets ban in the US, What other brands do you consider a good alternative?
I've had my Asus AX88U for almost 5 years now and it's been good and even still gets firmware updates. If you're trying to go with prosumer equipment, you'd be better off with Aruba Instant On than Ubiquiti.

How did you setup your WiFi?
The most important thing you can do is HARDWIRE CONNECTION TO CONSOLE FROM ROUTER. After that: get a dedicated router if possible, do not use the trash your cable company provides. QOS prioritizing. Make the Portal the highest priority and the PS5 directly below that. 5ghz if at all possible, dual b

Router recommendation
First question— do any of your devices even have WiFi 7 capability? At 600mbps, 1100 sqft, and your gaming devices hardwired, I would say something like a Glinet flint 2, or even Asus RT AX88u Pro for the 2.5gbps ports for future needs.

Streaming U.S. content
Install the VPN directly on the router, most proper ones support that. I've got the Asus RT-AX88U, 6 years old and working like a charm. That way your phone and TV are on the same network for screen casting, but you can also just use apps directly on the TV or Apple TV, since everything connected to

I’ve had it…
I had similar issues and ive always been an ASUS router guy dating back since Wireless G. Ive always found that the stock firmware is ok depending on the hardware. With that said i ended up migrating to Merlin and that worked out for me a for a long time before i entered the Unifi brand. My older RT
