Is a VPN Router Worth It?

I have one. It’s fantastic. But I whitelist devices. I don’t want my young kids having VPN access unless I manually turn it on. It was very easy to set up. I have an ASUS RT-AX88U. Just needed to upgrade the firmware to Asuswrt-Merlin. I don’t remember all the steps, but it was one of those things w...

In case TP-Link gets ban in the US, What other brands do you consider a good alternative?

I've had my Asus AX88U for almost 5 years now and it's been good and even still gets firmware updates. If you're trying to go with prosumer equipment, you'd be better off with Aruba Instant On than Ubiquiti.

Best home wifi router?

Hey! With a $500 budget, you’ve got some awesome choices. For solid coverage (up to or beyond 5000 sq ft) and gigabit speeds, I’d go with a TP-Link Deco XE75 Pro mesh system Wi-Fi 6E, super reliable, and great range even into the garage.. If you prefer a single powerful router, the ASUS RT-AX88U or ...

UX7 Poor Range

I recently moved to the Unifi stuff having had an Asus GT-BE98 WiFi 7 and 2 Asus RT-AX88U as mesh nodes. I've got the UDR7 and 2 UX7's. The range on the UX7's are rubbish compared to the Asus gear, I've had to put my UX7 at the top of the stairs and then run a cable through the loft to a switch in o...

I fried my home router by being an idiot, tell me what I should've gotten instead for ~$130

I've been more than pleased with my Asus RT-AX88U. It has been far the best home router I've had at home and I've had networks in my house in the late 1990's.

UniFi Express 7

I had an Asus setup with a GT-BE98 WiFi 7 router and 2 RT-AX88U as mesh nodes. Compared to this my UDR7 and Express 7 are pants in terms of WiFi coverage but are more stable as the Asus would often bomb out for no reason. I did buy another Express 7 to use as a mesh with the other and that has helpe...

Are Nanoleaf a bunch of cowboys?

I don't know what Nanoleaf is, but all my light sets have simply stopped connecting, I've tried deleting them entirely deleting the app and clearing all the data. Maybe it's my Asus RT-AX88U-Pro Wifi 6 router and the lights are simply incompatible with modern WiFi standards I don't know, but... I've...

Current FT Version for (an older) Asus RT-AC68U

Thanks everyone for your replies and feedback. It gives me the confidence to upgrade to the 2024.5 without fear (beyond the usual) of bricking. I spent hours last night looking at new routers to supplement this one. Huge rabbit hole. It looks like Tomato is no longer easily maintained with the newer...

ASUS RT-BE92U WiFi 7 Router review

The RT-AX88U Pro has the more superior antenna setup for the 2.4 and 5.0 bands compared to the RT-BE92U. Unless you’re experiencing problems with the router or if you really wanted to upgrade to WiFi 7, you should stay with your current router, because the processing power is still beastly, which is...
