This is already an issue, just because a router is 1Gbit, doesnt mean its processor can handle that throughput, case in point my old Asus RT-AC68U. I have two RT-AC68u routers and I eventually had to auto schedule weekly reboots because of that. No matter how many updates Asus came out with, it never got better. I finally switched to opnsense for a router this year and use my AC68u in AP mode for wireless and now I don't have to do reboots. Eve

What's your opinion on using two older ASUS routers with AiMesh? Getting EBOX in a few weeks and wondering if AiMesh using a RT-AC86U and RT-AC68U will get the job done, or is simply outdated.

That particular router is came out in 2012. Any reasonably current Asus router will be substantially better. If you can, I would get a WiFi 7 model. For your setup (3300 sqft, 2-story, gigabit, 40+ devices), I’d look at the ASUS RT-AX58U or the RT-BE58U. The AX58U is a solid Wi-Fi 6 router that handles a lot of devices well and supports AiMesh if you ever want to expand. The BE58U is Wi-Fi 7 and more future-proof but still comes in under $100. B
