Keeps the router up-to-date as far as security. I have to TMo versions running FT. Last Black Friday I bought a new Asus to upgrade the wifi standards. Nothing but problems. Returned it and plugged my trusty AC68U FT back in. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

You're thinking of the T-Mobile Cellspot Router, which was a rebranded ASUS RT-AC68U (branded instead as TM-AC1900). I still have some lying around that I flashed to stock ASUS firmware a while ago. They're old as hell now, but not entirely useless as auxiliary wifi units/part of an ASUS mesh.

Check out snbforums, the BE92U has been a bit iffy, might be the earlier hardware revisions. In general, I still like Asus, their mass produced regular routers (AC68U/AX86U* etc), not the huge over priced spiders, because they get great firmware support for many years, whether official or merlin.
