I have two RT-AC68u routers and I eventually had to auto schedule weekly reboots because of that. No matter how many updates Asus came out with, it never got better. I finally switched to opnsense for a router this year and use my AC68u in AP mode for wireless and now I don't have to do reboots. Eve

How do you like so far? How stable it is? I currently have RT-AC68U with Merlin firmware and lately it started to reset itself to default settings.

Thank you for continuing to offer suggestions! Turns out, breaking WOL is something ASUS routers are known to do. (conversely, TP-LINK routers are really good for WOL users) I was unable to find this information before, because the threads talk about WOL over the WAN - and I was searching for WOL ov

I dont think i have updated the firmware in a while. Last time I probably updated was a while back when there was a huge firmware update problem with a lot of people using asus where it was using too much memory or something and overheating/restarting. probably a few months after that is when I upda

Thank you for your input. I went ahead and removed those outbound NAT rules, just to keep things secure since that was the whole point of switching to OPNsense (my old AC68U stopped receiving security updates). What do you suggest?

Let me know if your router gets decent wifi speeds. I've had issues with my AC1900P running the lateset freshtomato. The harware is similar to the AC68U I believe.

Cool. At least with freshtomato, you'll stay updated, as it's got a fairly active community. With Asus putting the rt-ac1900p and rt-ac68u in end of life, it won't get any firmware updates. Even Merlin dropped support for those units and advised to use freshtomato so as to stay up to date.

I just tested freshtomato-RT-AC1900P-K26ARM-2025.3-VPN-64K and the wifi signal got slightly better but the speeds were around 3-5 Mbps for VPN connections. Previously I had flashed it with freshtomato-RT-AC1900P-K26ARM-2025.3-AIO-64K and the speeds were well below 1Mbps for VPN connections. Using th

The RT-AC68U has a Broadcom CPU which is not well supported in opensource firmware due to the restrictive nature of the chipmaker. If it's working on 24.10.0, I'd leave it alone.
