Talk me out of an Archer C7 (AC1750) for an IoT AP
Does sound like an AP issue. The ASUS RT-AC68U has bad 2.4 Ghz support on openwrt. DD-wrt probably has the newest drivers for a broadcom based board.

Reason why router needs more frequent rebooting for some devices to connect?
I have two RT-AC68u routers and I eventually had to auto schedule weekly reboots because of that. No matter how many updates Asus came out with, it never got better. I finally switched to opnsense for a router this year and use my AC68u in AP mode for wireless and now I don't have to do reboots. Eve

Switched from CGNAT to Public IP, now Steam Link/Remote Play doesn't work outside network
Thank you for your input. I went ahead and removed those outbound NAT rules, just to keep things secure since that was the whole point of switching to OPNsense (my old AC68U stopped receiving security updates). What do you suggest?

Let me know if your router gets decent wifi speeds. I've had issues with my AC1900P running the lateset freshtomato. The harware is similar to the AC68U I believe.

Cool. At least with freshtomato, you'll stay updated, as it's got a fairly active community. With Asus putting the rt-ac1900p and rt-ac68u in end of life, it won't get any firmware updates. Even Merlin dropped support for those units and advised to use freshtomato so as to stay up to date.

I just tested freshtomato-RT-AC1900P-K26ARM-2025.3-VPN-64K and the wifi signal got slightly better but the speeds were around 3-5 Mbps for VPN connections.
