Open Source Is the Only Way Forward

The thing is - you ain't buying a system that runs you frontier grade models for $1200/$2400. For $1200 you have a choice between R9700 or Arc B70. So 32GB VRAM and around 600-640GB/s memory bandwidth. This will smoothly run you Qwen3.5 27B or 35B MoE, both roughly comparable to Anthropic's Haiku, a

How Apple's decade-long bet on chips won over AI teams

Unified RAM, that's basically it. If Apple Silicon didn't have unified RAM then no one would be using it for AI, they'd instead use AMD Strix Halo or Nvidia DGX chips, both of which have some advantages over AS, like token prefill speeds and CUDA access.

Intel Solves 18A Yield Issues, Production Reaches 30,000 Wafers Per Month

This. TBH I just want to see AMD respond with something other than "but Strix Halo is better" while ignoring the massive difference in TDP/thermal profile.

Framework Desktop Mainboard with replaceable LPCAMM2?

From what we know, it is physically impossible. The placement of the RAM chips themselves is an important part of how it achieves an extremely wide memory buss at low latency. According to Framework, when they first looked into making a computer with Strix Halo, they asked AMD to try and find a way

Intel Panther Lake Benchmarked vs Strix Halo/Strix Point vs RTX 3050/RX 6600

I wasn’t expecting the claim of 82% gain vs Strix Point to hold up in third party reviews, but here we are. The gap is pretty astonishing, almost painful considering APUs used to be AMD’s unique thing. Also, interesting point they raise: because Panther Lake gets the full featureset of XeSS 3 (SS +

Can someone explain technically why Apple shared memory is so great that it beats many high end CPU and some low level GPUs in LLM use case?

Unified memory can, and in Apple's case, does mean you can use the same data in CPU and GPU code without having to move the data back and forth. Apple Silicon has a memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s on the M1 chip (non-Pro/Max), the slowest processor package for macOS-operated computers, e.g. the MacBook

Introducing Framework Laptop 13 Pro

Dont get hyped for marketing terms man, as I said in another post, apple is simply dynamically shared memory space, the others is static. Its not a huge difference especially since the increase in some cases. 4GB lost out of 128GB is not a make it or break it. Also, you could get really close to the

Analysis of the Apple M5 SoC: Apple silicon extends its lead over AMD, Intel and Qualcomm

LOL, the first paragraph says the M5 iGPU is well ahead of while the 3rd paragraph says "new M5 chip features one of the fastest current iGPUs (with the exception of Strix Halo), but it is no faster than the best versions of the Intel Arc Graphics 140V or the AMD Radeon 890M." The new GPU is also we

Framework @ 2026 Computex: The ONLY booth I care about in Computex

Forgot to add, a few interesting details I learned from the engineers and the team: It took them forever to find the right SD card read that would fit into the expansion card The audio expansion card in fact uses a different DAC than FW13's motherboards. It uses the CX31993 DAC which if you are an a

Can I Run Decent Models Locally if I Buy this??

No. In that price range, you'd be better served by a AMD Strix Halo machine with 128GB RAM. However, For OpenClaw specifically I believe the creator says it was made with MacOS in mind. So a Mac Studio may be better even though you'll pay double.
