Recent Kindle convert here, my Oasis was my all time favourite device (gifted to my wife now). The Libra is an amazing successor AND I don’t have to deal with Amazon anymore.

I'm sorry OP this sucks and I'm sure you'll make the best decision. The Kobo's are better but they feel more fragile to me and my KLC lives on my bed and still use my Oasis as my outside reader since they built that model tough and still think it was the last good kindle.

Amazon is gross, but my Kindle Oasis (2019?) is incredible. Buy a kindle used from eBay and use a DRM-free source like bookshop.org + your local library. Kobo is owned by another huge company (Rakuten) so I don't know if it's worth the hassle of making the switch.

To illustrate the greyness of this ireader Ocean 5 C here is a comparison: ( from left to right. All with built-in light OFF) Top : Kobo Libra (B/W version) , Likebook Muses (7.8" sunken screen - one of my all time favourite reader. Clean white background with text displaying closest to the surface

I'm a button snob. I had a Kindle Voyage for 10 years that has the button like press areas. Would have loved an Oasis, but they were too rich for me. I sideload all my books, and Amazon likes to remove sideloaded books from devices. I often would be halfway through a book to find it was gone when I

Also have KU and read 50-60 books a year. I splashed out on a Kindle Oasis (sad they don't make it anymore) because it had warm light and physical buttons. £220 or something. Crazy expense for a device that does one thing. But man, I read almost every day and it's been 6 years since I got it.

I’ve never bought a new kindle in my life. I always just buy one for $20 on eBay and jailbreak it to get rid of the ads then manually load books, then give it away to friends and family when I find someone that would put it to good use and repeat the cycle.. I got my Oasis with a nice leather cover

I have an Oasis too and it's definitely the best of the modern kindles but I still really like the kindle keyboard. I don't buy books from Amazon anymore either (and have previous purchases backed up) and am comfortable loading with a cable but I feel bad for everyone that uses the older devices exc
