A Kindle Basic is a pretty "pocket sized" reader which can mean all your books are pocket sized regardless of heft. 🙂

To add, the custom gestures alone are a huge improvement in reading experience for me. You can set them to do almost anything. Increase/decrease/disable frontlight, navigate in books, basically any menu action can be assigned to a gesture. I even have a HomeAssistant plugin so I can turn off my beds

So transfering the PDFs isn't the problem. You can send PDFs to a kindle by using the "Send to Kindle" feature either in the web browser or emailing the PDF or using the Kindle App on your phone. Black Friday deal on a Basic kindle, log in and then turn on airplane mode before it can update. Then jailbreak it and use KindleForge to remove ads and install KOreader. Or the x4, but I think it lacks a front light. Either will run you about $80. Cheapest options out there.
