How Valve's desperation to escape Windows 8 turned it into a Linux powerhouse

The biggest thing console had was you turn it on, you start game you play game. With windows sometimes you fiddled and did other day to day stuff but it worked. Then Linux required a lot of fiddling and back then AI wasn’t there to help troubleshoot as easily. What people want is convenience and Ste

Most reliable brands - just starting my search

Beyond major OEMs, the majority of these Chi-NUC brands haven't been in the NUC/mPC manufacturering long enough to provide a long-term reputation. A couple of years ago, Acemagic, Beelink & Minisforum were the preferred brands. In 2025, AooStar, Beelink & GMKtec have become more popular. Beelink cur

I heard a lot of mini pcs are shipped with bloatwares or malwares, is this true?

Kamrui, Acemagic and Acemagician were caught shipping with malware. If you come across those brands best to buy barebones and use your own, seperately acquired, drive/os. In truth, so many miniPC brands exist that you could really just ignore those names (it’s really one brand).

Feelings toward ACEMAGIC

It's about risk management. AceTragic isn't known for build quality or customer service. From helping others with their AceTragic problems and failures in the last year I could say that you take your GMKtec experience and multiply the risk. I'm helping someone with a 7 month old M1 i9 that just "qui

Do you recommend I buy an Acemagic mini PC?

Bad support, cheap parts, known to have pre-installed malware. The issue with a lot of Acemagic/Kamrui/Acemagician miniPCs is that, even if you do a fresh install of Windows, the drivers for the insanely obscure parts like wifi can only be found on obscure chinese websites or forums.

Best tiny client for 4k 120+hz

I see a lot of people suggest NUC PCs with Radeon GPUs in them. I'm not sure how much that has improved over the last couple of years but the last time I tried a NUC with a radeon GPU in it, the decode latency was awful. Like 20+ ms. So nearly unusable even though it supposedly supported AV1 and HEV

Feelings toward ACEMAGIC

That's the point. Its not that AceTragic "drops like flies" its that the failure rate is noticeably higher than other brands within a year, customer service is poor when it happens and repairs are almost non-existent. Take your mystery GMKtec Ryzen 5 for example. USB problems like yours tend to be h

Are lower-performance miniPCs less likely to break?

This is more a question about the manufacturer, component/assembly quality control & brand. Indeed, heat dissipation does play a factor, although if one starts off with a poor quality product, the experience can only go down from there. Take your 5500U for example. The Lucienne Zen 2 5000 series (57

How realistic are the reports of rapid failure, spyware, etc...?

Here's the perspective of Chi-NUC brands from more than 4 decades of PC repair. Understand that these are PCs which do not have registration requirements for warranty or regional centers for repair. Their primarily in the category of consumer electronics one purchases off the shelf from a local reta

Best (brand/model) Ryzen 5XXX constantly below $250?

Products manufactured by CYX understand the MiniPC Union umbrella (Acemagic, Acemagician, Kamrui, NiPoGi, etc) have questionable build quality & customer service over the last couple years, noticeably once they switched from Cezanne/Barceló to the much cheaper Zen 2 Lucienne. Something that became e
