Hardware you simply can't do without?
Sure, I used to use a pair of Mackie HR824 MK1's as my main monitors for years as I knew them very well, they sounded great and have a great low end. I would almost always get the low end right on my first mix but the mid range didn't always translate well to other sources. It took more work then it

Small speakers vs Big speakers
From a loudspeaker design and performance standpoint, it is much easier to get a small speaker to tick the boxes (on and off axis performance, woofer/tweeter integration, and etc.) what is hard to achieve with small speakers is the subjective “wow” factor that can really only come from a large displ

What do you listen to your bounces on in your computer?
I guess mine usually goes into my dropbox immediately, and I play it on my wireless bose ear buds, where I listen to most of my music, while I go to my truck where I’ll put it on in there. I have a pair of old crummy desktop speakers from 20-25 years ago that I stole from my mom when she got rid of

Audio So Quiet That The Game Is Unplayable?
I thought that at first because I have changed headsets since the last wipe, but even on my studio monitors (Yamaha HS8's) the audio is at like 5% what it should be, literally no other program on my PC is having this issue

Hesitating between buying a Nord or a very good midi controller with weighted keys
I have to say I have never been happy or satisfied with any setup that uses midi and virtual sounds. I don't know what it is, I don't know if it's psychological but it just never sounds quite right to me. It sounds fine when I hear recordings and see videos of people playing these setups, but whenev

Opinions on Adam Audio D3V for production/mixing/mastering?
Vlastným adam audio d3v.. Už ich mám cca 6 mesiacov.. bojoval som a bojoval aby som z nich dostal maximum! Mám skúsenosti s yamaha hs8,m-audio bx5, jbl lsr305 mkii. Keď som došiel do týchto mini monitorov, aj keď na začiatku som nebol nadšený, hrali zle plechovo no to boli začiatky.. Potom som priku

How to test secondhand monitors while purchasing
Speaking only from knowledge and not experience since I don't have the space/privacy to grab myself some nice big monitors, but I've gone down the rabbit hole of "ooo what shall I buy": KRK Rokits, HS8's, JBL 305P's, Adam T5V/T7V's and Kali LP6's seem to be what come up most in this kinda price rang

Can studio monitors still be enjoyable in an untreated room if mixing accuracy isn’t the primary goal? Looking for immersion and fun.
It really depends on the studio monitor. Yamaha HS8 for example I would not enjoy for casual listening. There’s some JBL, Kali, Focal, and Adam audio models though that sound very enjoyable. (I would personally go Kali, and shoot for 8”+ models. Ensuring “sound feels musical” makes me think you’ll n

[AMA On Mixing] Been mixing for +20 years, ask me anything about mixing. Also offering mix reviews
How do you approach getting your mixes to translate well across systems? I've been mixing on Yamaha HS8 studio monitors and gotten my mix to sound great only to find it congested on smaller computer speakers or headphones. Also have mixed on Sehhheiser HD 600 headphones only to find the balance off

RHRN Mix
In my room I listen to my music on Yamaha hs8 and the hs8s. In my car I half ass, but correctly, put together some kicker q class 6.5 all 4 doors and 2x12 comp C's bumping. I still find the mix pretty terrible even with all the control I have. Like you said, way too much compression, especially with
