my two favorite digital minimalist devices

even better than a kindle, its an xteink x4. it’s pretty limited compared to a kindle but it’s perfect for simply reading and also the perfect size 😍

digital minimalism edc 2025

ereader - samsung galaxy note 4, great phone, even better at reading books. get a proper ereader. There are plenty decent non-kindle variants around. If you want a small, super simple one, checkout the xteink X4. It's also very affordable. Your eyes will thank you.

Best pocket-sized e-ink eReader? No note-taking required

Real pocketsize comes with the xteink x4. It has a own subreddit. Fantastic device. Not for beginners and the use of calibre is necessary, but totaly worth it!

would this be possible?

What I'd recommend in your situation is get a XTEINK X4 and try to build a flip case around it. It's a very cool tiny 50-60€ e-reader. Decorate it with an enclosure where the clamshell part would protect the device's screen, like on of those old flip out phone cases, just cooler. I feel like this is

Are really phone sized ereaders worth it? Can people use it daily and finish books in a regular basis?

i have read so many books on my smaller ereaders (former palma owner, own both the Xteink X4 and X3, as well as an Obook5). so long as you're okay with reading on the smaller screen, it's great to have something that's always in your pocket / bag / purse / on you in some way. Especially with the X4

Why doesn't any company make a real barebones e-reader?

I would second recommendations for most Pocketbook devices or the Xteink X4. I totally get that the X4 is really small though, but it fits everything else. You may be interested in some DIY kits too. There's a whole other level of difficulty to it but, not only is it rewarding, you would get to know

Money well spend 100%

I completely agree with you! The Xteink X4 is actually my first e-reader, since I was a bit worried about possibly damaging the more expensive ones that I borrowed. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you format your manga panels to make them readable on the device?

New to eReaders, considering Xteink X4 – have a few questions

As an avid eReader fan, I love my X4... but i really don't suggest it as someone's first eReader unless they're also into other niche subgroups (like sbc gaming) cause... yeah. The X4 does not really come woth books (mine had i think 2 preloaded epubs both of which have issues because of the X4's OS

Questions before I buy

Can you read books on the X4 via Onleihe (the German system for library books)? If you mean your local library's ebook lending system (German or otherwise), the answer's almost certainly NO. For that to happen, someone who knows the inner workings of the library system needs to write custom firmware
