ARE YOU GOING TO BLOCK ANY FIRMWARE MODIFICATIONS?
I love my x4 with crosspoint and was planning on getting another x4 in the other color, an x3, and potentially the x4 v2 when it releases. Now, I certainly won't be buying another xteink product until they unlock newly produced devices or provide a way to opt in to doing so, I'm fine with it voiding

Is this the end of the interest in this and future devices?
It is for me. Was planning on buying another X3, but now after learning this is the way XTEink is going, then that's it for me. These are tinkering eReaders, locking them down is BS.

Flashing of firmwares DISABLED
Received my X3 On April 06. Just tested Crosspoint install, thank goodness it worked I was planning on getting another for the Wife, but this news seals the decision not to. To bad, no more Xteink devices. Thank you OP for sharing these news.

Will I get a locked device if I buy it from their official website
USA customer here. I ordered an X3 from XTEINK's official website Apr 12 and received it 4 days ago. IT IS LOCKED AND I CANNOT FLASH CROSSPOINT TO IT AT THIS TIME. Waiting for the latest hack to be made available soon. I hope the XTEINK company is learning something from all this. Rather than apply

Locking down firmware has absolutely nothing to do with security. A bit ironic to use an open source motherboard on a device you intend to lockdown, regardless of the market-specific nonsense you’re spewing. Enjoy my X4 and was heavily considering an X3. Also got very excited about the newer models

How risky do we think it would be to buy an X3 with the intention of flashing it right now?
As far as I know Amazon doesn’t have the X3 yet. I ordered from their site in early March and received it early April. It’s flashable. At this point I think the only sure way is to get the global version which would be from their site directly. It’s the Chinese version that’s unflashable- so far. I’

Main Differences in official firmware vs crosspoint custom
I think u/beapeacock said it perfectly. While, I don't think the stock firmware is necessarily difficult to get used to, the learning curve is steep. It's certainly not as convenient as a Kindle or a Kobo. I think the thing we're all holding our breath for is to see what the official XTEINK app will
