UTR tested
I'm currently in Disney world with my family and I've used the UTR for the kids as they have lots of devices and also for our apple TV. Initial thoughts after 2 nights with it... Range is very limited. We have conjoining rooms and the second one of the kids goes in the next room with their tablet, i

Is the relative performance of the UTR as bad as I am seeing in online reviews?
The UTR is not designed to be a speed demon. It's designed to be very compact and reasonably affordable and provide turnkey access to your Unifi network (and other travel router benefits). Those are the things it's good at. For starters, it only has WiFi 5 and it's compact form factor will certainly

Question about the Travel Router and streaming
Could it work, yes. I have been using the UTR a lot while my wife has been hospitalized / undergoing outpatient treatment over the past couple months, including the last 31 days straight and a 3-night inpatient stay this week. It is good, but I would give you this summary of my experience: - The UTR

What can I get my Ubiquiti-loving husband for his birthday?
Maybe a gift card to Microcenter or something so he can choose the thing(s) he actually wants would be a safer option? A lot Ubiquiti gear is made for a specific purpose — as in, you buy a UniFi switch if you need more Ethernet ports on your UniFi network, you buy another UniFi WiFi access point (an

Does your self-hosted hobby pay off?
Tailscale also uses WireGuard. WireGuard isn’t just a name, it’s a protocol. The issue with self hosted WireGuard is the FQDN and reverse proxy. Have to be careful. Tailscale is much easier to deploy. Just set your home server as an exit node and you’re good to go. Otherwise, some free alternatives

Total Armature trying to choose a mesh network
Mesh is all wireless access points. You don't have to buy a "mesh system" in the way you are thinking. Ubiquiti and UniFi are mentioned. I will throw GLinet into the mix. The interface is easier. Cheaper price points. When you travel take one of the GLinet routers. Throw it in your bag. Connect it t

Introducing: UniFi Travel Router
Sure, I meant if you want the "seamless" experience this offers, Tailscale is basically a 1:1. But it's not as simple, I will admit. I'm guessing they skipped WiFi 6 because this is an older, cheaper chipset. In terms of a connection, this is a travel router. A lot of people connect their travel rou

UniFi Travel Router
I gave plenty of use cases in my other comment for travel-related or on-the-go applications to have WiFi 6 or 2.5gbps, no need to hyperfixate on the fact I like to connect my travel router as an AP on my home network, too, from time to time. Connecting a travel NAS to a travel router is the most obv
