The three Wi-Fi mesh systems I am familiar with are plume, eero, and Amplifi Alien. Stay far away from Plume. Eero is fine, but doesn’t have the level of configuration I want. Alien is better, but dated, I’d expect them to update to Wi-Fi 7 soon. If setting up fresh, I’d go with Uniquiti’s commercia

Wireguard VPN in china
I’m using an Express 7 in China that connects via WireGuard to a UCG-Ultra in Canada and a UDR-7 in Hong Kong. Both work very well with sustained speeds up to 300Mbps down and 30Mbps (limited by the local China upload speed) up. This is with 1Gbps+ bidirectional connections on the networks outside o

On the iOS26 beta, and HomeKit now shows how long a device has been “No Response.”
I've had my fair share of No Response issues within HomeKit and it mostly started when I got a a tp-link Deco router. (my first WiFi6 router) A lot of my devices did not like how the router managed the WiFi 6 standard especially on 2.4GHx band (if you turned that off and went with the older WiFi sta

Alien Setup Replacement
I can assure you switching to unifi is no big deal anymore. I also upgraded my alien setup to 2 u7 pro wall access points, 2 unifi flex mini 2.5 switches and the cloud gateway max. Total cost not more than 2 Amplifi alien at retail and the upgrade for me was huge. 2.5G network everywhere and more th

It’s Official!
I currently have two Amplifi Alien routers with one in bridge mode acting as a mesh node. Has a dedicated 6GHz backhaul connection to not eat into overall bandwidth from other devices. I have zero connectivity issues across maybe 30-40 devices connected. I always see a NAT of Open across other devic

Bufferbloat
I know this post is 2 years old. But after doing a ton of digging this is what helped me. I've been getting D BufferBloat scores and having the worst jitter/lag in CS2 that I've ever seen. Making it unplayable. Rubber banding like I've never seen before. I swore it was a problem with a CS2 update. N

How should I configure my AmpliFi Alien to stop my Apple HomeKit from falling into an existential crisis every other day?
Had same issues since firmware 4.0.6. Found several threads in the https://community.ui.com/timeline with same or similar problems. Rolled back to 4.0.5. No issues since then, everything stable. connection, homekit, no more losing clients etc. I would recommend that. It's pretty easy and I guess it

I'm doing a big renovation to my house and want to start my smart home setup from scratch
Cat5 cable running POE (Power Omer Ethernet) which is super easy to add. That is the only way to go for external security cameras. I’m in the process of retrofitting my house with Cat5 for mesh access points and external security cameras. Wireless is fine for HomePods and light switches, but everyth

Does AmpliFi Alien support wireless mesh when in bridge mode?
My AmpliFi HD router is set in bridge mode and my mesh points are working fine. No difference to having the router running in normal mode. Maybe the Alien is different, but I would expect it to work fine. My setup --> Internet --> ISP router --> UniFi Gateway --> AmpliFi router in bridge mode --> Am

U7 Lite or U6+/Pro?
Just placed an order for the 7 lite and 7 LR. Hoping it will cover my 3275sq ft home, but for the cost I’ll buy a 2nd 7 lite if needed. Also upgrading to a UCG Max and SW-Lite-8. Was tempted to get two or three In wall 7’s for the extra ports but I think they wouldn’t be used short term and the cost
