UPDATE: 2 weeks ago I asked "What's the best no-frills coffee maker", and after 400+ recommendations, I bought my mom the Moccamaster

You're not supposed to use citric acid with Moccamaster. It can leave a bad taste. A long blogpost in Finnish. A reddit post about the aftertaste Moccamaster's own cleaning guide: do not use (organic) descaling agents based on citric acid, as this results in a lasting bad taste of coffee because the

Let’s talk coffee makers

I'm a coffee farmer. Let's talk about the coffee you're using. The better the coffee maker, the more it's going to reveal deficiencies in the coffee you use. Commodity coffee is strip picked. Under-ripe, over-ripe, and actually-ripe coffee cherry all go into the same hopper and are processed all at

Disappointed!

Do not use your coffee pot to refill the water reservoir for any coffee maker. Coffee is hydrophobic and despite looking clean that coffee pot likely has coffee oils on it. Perhaps you do a deep cleaning every time, but adding coffee oil to the internals of a coffee machine isn't a great idea. Despi

UPDATE: 2 weeks ago I asked "What's the best no-frills coffee maker", and after 400+ recommendations, I bought my mom the Moccamaster

I bought a moccamaster a few years ago and long term i'm finding it a little... disappointing. Ultimately it looks cool but it's still just a drip coffee maker. It takes up a lot of counter space. Design is ok. It's all business. The insulated carafe is quality. (I opted for the carafe instead of wa

Best Drip Coffee Maker

This is one question that doesn't seem to go away... Reddit has a serious hard on for the Technivorm Moccamaster, but I'm going to give you another recommendation - Bonavita. I own both, and both are SCA-certified and brew excellent coffee. However, the Bonavita wins for me for the following reasons

Let’s talk coffee makers

I'm suggesting they don't buy the Moccamaster because their coffee will likely taste even worse. The brewing apparatus is one leg of a three-legged stool. Grind and product matter just as much. The world's finest estate coffees, ground with whirly-blade for a few seconds and then brewed with a WalMa

Lucie, I can assure you that no one cares

I will say this is a dumb dumb post but this carafe actually belongs to a somewhat fancy coffee maker. It’s a Moccamaster, which brews somewhat similar to pour over coffee compared to your average Mr. Coffee. But I’m still a hater. If you’re gonna drink iced coffee, get a cold brew maker.

Ok, so we bit the bullet... You guys were right. ☕ ☕

At the end of the day, the moccamaster just heats water to a good temperature range below boiling and pumps it over coffee grounds. I wouldn't buy one because I think it offers very little more than being an overpriced kettle, but it legitimately does something basically every other drip maker fails

Coffee pots that stand the test of time?

Lots of pourover, french press, etc. coffee makers that will last forever and they are cheap and produce better coffee. They also aren't cooking plastic with each use like the moccamaster or ninja.

What makes the Technivorm Moccamaster so good ? Is it really that good ?

First off: I understand it is a good coffee maker. The question the OP is really asking though is is it good enough to justify the premium I think at this point it may be trading on its name a little. There are a fair number consistent temp, shower head / multi-hole style drip, reliable, SCA certifi
