Cheap decent portable speaker with an aux port?
I discovered a few years ago that a lot of bluetooth speakers have latency even when you wire directly into the aux port. For that reason I ended up using a Soundcore Motion+ cause it had one of the lowest latencies I could find.

Do you have a small external portable speaker and if so, which one?
I discovered that all portable speakers introduce latency even when you plug directly into them. I ended up with a Soundcore Motion (I think Motion+?) because I found it had the lowest latency I could find.

Small battery powered synths/grooveboxes w/speakers for lunches
Of course you are right about iOS for portable music making. Someone should make a portable battery-powered phone/tablet dock with speakers and audio/MIDI I/O. Or maybe even a portable keyboard with a slot / connection for hooking in a phone/tablet. Bluetooth MIDI controllers may be the best option

Hank-value-tier Wireless Speaker?
It's 2026 and I'm still happily rocking my Anker Soundcore Motion+. After creating a precise EQ curve for it I think it sounds great with more than enough loudness, decent form factor, and a 0 latency aux jack. Meanwhile the Motion 300 is their more modern bluetooth-only little brother. I've seen it

You don't have a latency problem? My soundcore 2 has huge latency. I also have the motion plus, that one has almost none latency.

Recommendations for ~$100. speakers for Mac mini (M4).
Soundcore motion plus. Its a bluetooth speaker but also provides zero latency aux input. This may be important for your use case. Any bluetooth speaker adds latency including bluetooth speakers with an aux. Latency for some matters and for others it doesn't plus you can use an app or internal hardwa

I made a Mac video player for people who still feel something missing in other players
Thanks for the detailed reply. That’s interesting about CoreAudio, I always wondered how bluetooth delay compensation worked. In my case, I’m using a pair of Soundcore Motion+ speakers in stereo mode, and they introduce an additional delay that connected devices can’t compensate for: Computer —(wire
