Setting up macro photography IS fiddly. Also how much better it will be than a good scanner will depend on many variables - just to name a few the lens, the stand, how stable your table is, how sensitive the floor is to vibrations and most importantly how patient and careful you are when setting up.

Well, as said, it’s not that the first gen A7 is inherently bad with AF, it’s definetly way under the later versions (th A7II is a BOG upgrade in that compartment). Is a really different way of shooting than a DSLR and needs some getting used to. IMHO, if I were to go on a lighter everyday carry, I

Recommend A7III for better eye AF, dual card slots and same battery model as used by A7IV. A7II eye AF can't tracking eye of moving person. https://cameradecision.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-A7-III-vs-Sony-Alpha-A7-II

Recommend A6400. A6400 and A6600 has similiar AF feature. Both have eye AF in photo and video. A6000 and A7II eye AF only in photo and can't tracking eye of moving person. https://cameradecision.com/compare/Sony-Alpha-a6600-vs-Sony-Alpha-a6400 https://youtu.be/WiLYCwcGrZg https://youtu.be/s9_YmwOS8G
