Still worth upgrading to the z8 or z9?
I’ve been shooting for magazines and corporate for 15 years. The Z8 and Z9 are the best cameras I’ve ever used, even beating out my Sony A9ii and A1 (for my shooting style). I’m glad Nikon is on the old flagship recule schedule and not releasing new bodies every two years. The firmware updates are p

Bought my first Nikon after being 8 years on Sony [impressions below]
I moved to a Zf to shoot for personal trips alongside my work A9ii’s. Once I saw how snappy that camera was in comparison (and the price difference) I jumped ship and sold my Sony gear. I’ve been working with the Z9’s for an over a year and absolutely love them.

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! December 12, 2025
If fast action is a priority for you, the Sony a7 V or even an used Sony a9 would be a better option. If you don't need all the features of the a7 V, an used a9 would be the best value body. The a7 IV was designed to be an all-rounder while the a9 was designed specifically for sports/action/wildlife

Outdoor Sports Lens- Can’t Decide
70-200 with 1.4x is great. 400/4.5 on second body is nice too. I have Z8 back button focus button programmed to switch FX/DX modes for composition cropping if you need more reach. No lag doing that with bursts (unlike my Sony A9ii)

Do you shoot in silent mode? My sensor is too slow for that.
You actually prevented me from upgrading to Sony, thanks! I got the R8 and never noticed rolling shutter issues even though I exclusively shot in electronic shutter mode. I liked the lens choice/price but the Sony bodies are really expensive and got low frame rates unless of course i pay 5x for A9ii

Upgrade to Canon or Sony for full-frame mirrorless?
That’s the camera I was going to buy lol.. I just wasn’t impressed at all by it. I tested the A9ii and the A7RV from Sony

Back to DSLR
I’ve just spent 2 years with a full Sony setup, A1, a9II and all G-MASTER glass. I’m going back to my D750 and D810. For me the whole mirrorless system felt artificial.

Keep DSLR or upgrade to mirrorless for kid and family photography?
Another fun example of this , the Sony A99ii has the exact same 42 megapixel sensor as the A7R2. This means the A7, A7ii, A9 and A9ii all have a worse sensor than the last Sony DSLR.

Looking for advice on if upgrading from a Canon R6 to an R5 strictly for the MP for cropping . Pictures posted to show what I want photo wise (and bonus ones showing off some recent photos). More explained in the body!
The r5 can help, but remember, the r5 is basically an r6 but with more megapixels. I'm also assuming that you are happy with your current lens's sharpness. i would say if you can afford it i would, in my local birding community, all but 4 (an R6, R6 mark ii, R3, and 1DX mark II) have the Canon R5, a

Set up ideas for low light sports - I’m not sure between ideas
I shoot roller derby in an auditorium with terrible lighting. I run an a9ii with the Sony 70-200 gm II and am a7iii with the Sony 24-70 gm II. I have to shoot at 1/800 or 1/1000 and f2.8, so that means I'm shooting at incredibly high ISO... like over 18000 ISO in both cameras. It's not ideal but Lig
